title: Book posters

Saw some wild postings advertising books the other day. I’m sure I’ve seen this before, but it’s still a bit odd, (but great!)

On this wall you can see Snuff, Bright Shiny Morning, and my favorite, Hot Latin Diet.

It should be mentioned that these were around mulberry street and spring, in NYC.

The freelancer’s union posters give the book covers a run for their money. Whoever’s responsible for their design does a fantastic job. Walked by Snuff today … these posters are all around town.

Coral did the snuff book… don’t know about the rest.

Interesting to see Snuff without the type in the mouth. I suppose it’s for super-fast street readability. Though it looks interesting with a gaping hole as well.

I’m guessing book posters posted in public are a phenomenon that only takes place in NYC. (Isn’t there a country song called “Too Ugly for LA, to Dumb for NY?”) It’s a heart-warming, hopeful image, to be sure.

Tal, the Snuff IS in the mouth. Squint ad you shall see…

ian shimkoviak, 2008-05-27 11:25:00

PF I heard this on an interview once :

New York is hype, LA is talk, and the Midwest is work.

Auguste, I live in the South (GA), and I don’t even want to know what they say about us…

PF, 2008-05-27 12:45:00

(here, snuff is something the black women put in their mouths right before the tobacco spitting contest at our annual hometown community festival. so of course when Ian says “the Snuff IS in the mouth” i can’t help but wonder if he’s making a reference… but if you’re not, Ian, and are interested in seeing a photo of a pitch-black woman in a white, loose (indecent) tank top spewing a record-setting brown spit-missle from her powerful lips, please let me know.)

PF: I’m from Georgia, too, and shhhhhh lest word get out that all we do is sit around [on our porches] and drink lemonade! Whereabouts are you from?

Auguste, 2008-05-27 19:56:00

Auguste, I escaped from Atlanta a few years ago to a small country town near Savannah. (I’m gonna guess you’re from Atlanta, or is it Macon?) Savannah is a beautiful and beguiling place with a first-rate Art & Design College (SCAD), but Savannah is still not a place where you’d find book posters posted anywhere downtown (outside of a library or a bookstore). I’ve surely never seen anything like this around downtown Atlanta either.

Off topic: is it just me or do you guys often find that several of the covers on the front page don’t load? I always have about 5 or 8 red X’s (but its not always the same covers that don’t show up). Just a heads up…
